Job Description:
The Clinical Counsellor/Therapist position can be either as a contractor or as a part-time employee (up to 20 hours per week). The primary role is to provide specialized therapeutic support to Evolve service participants involved in, or impacted by, hate motivated or targeted violence. Evolve is a confidential, voluntary, and no cost program to support those moving away from extremist ideologies, conspiracy theories, grievances or groups that justify violence. The program also works with individuals who have experienced a hate crime or incident, providing a place to share their experience and find support. This work requires cultural humility, in-depth knowledge of related social dynamics, and the ability to apply trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner.
Duties include creating a psychologically safe environment, validating emotional responses, providing psychoeducation on trauma reactions, and connecting staff to ongoing support resources. Employees and contractors are a part of debriefing processes regarding service participants and challenging circumstances.
The clinical counsellor requires a reflexive approach to needs and vulnerabilities in domains such as mental health and social identity, incorporating trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver clinical counselling to Evolve service participants on an as needed basis.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical records and written reports in accordance with professional and organizational standards on OPV’s Caseflow software.
- Attend and participate in bi-weekly intervention team meetings.
- Meet as needed with members of the intervention team for case debriefings and any personal counselling needs that may arise from their work as required.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Clear Criminal Record, Intervention Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working with complex clientele and families in related areas such as violence prevention, youth delinquency, criminal justice, addictions and mental health, and/or crisis intervention.
- Demonstrates strong communication and writing skills.
- Self-motivated and driven, capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and experience using electronic case management software.
Working Conditions:
- This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with in-office presence at our Edmonton location.
- A flexible schedule and ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate service participants.
